This year, our Media students have been busy working on a drink and drug driving video project in partnership with Thames Valley Police (TVP).
As part of Thames Valleys Police’s work to improve engagement with young people and the police, our Media students have worked hard to produce videos that show the dangers of drink and drug driving.
Thames Valley Police gave the students a short brief, to which they worked in small groups to come up with ideas and storyboards that would best engage their peers on such serious topics with support of the police.
They had complete creative freedom and worked alongside our Beauty and Performing Arts students who assisted with special effects makeup and starred in their videos. The local Abingdon recovery service, Egerton’s, supported the students to recreate a crash scene in a safe environment and Officers were also on standby to help advise on the factual elements when dealing with a road traffic collision.
Annie, Study Programme Lead for Creative Media shared “It was great to see our students rise to the occasion of working on such a complex external project. They all worked very hard, in a very professional manner to deliver what the client had asked for. Simon Hills, Will Moody (as well as others) of Thames Valley & Hampshire Police were all incredibly supportive; not only in terms of providing this opportunity, but also in ensuring that our students had the support and resources they needed to complete the videos.”
The College, students, and their family and friends came together in the summer to preview their work ahead of the videos featuring as part of Thames Valley Police’s road safety campaign this winter. One of our students - Amber - who has since gone on to Cardiff University to study Media and Communications shared “it was a really fun project which created a lot of opportunities for us all.”
