Media students head to Berlin film festival

25th Feb 2016

42 Level 3 Media students from Abingdon & Witney College headed to Berlin earlier this month to visit the Berlinale, the famous Berlin film festival, and to find out more about the city and its history.

The jam packed trip included a visit to the Reichstag, the DDR Museum, Checkpoint Charlie and also the RBB studios, which is Berlin’s public service broadcaster for TV and radio. The main highlight of the trip was the Berlinale, where students attended a screening of ‘Valdarama’, an Iranian Film, which was followed by a Q&A with the Director, Producer and one of the actors. Students at the college were enthusiastic and thoughtful with the questions and in a full auditorium asked 50% of the questions.

Kevin Howick, Curriculum Manager for Media said, “The trip gave students a great insight into a different culture and the way they celebrate film. Students were hugely impressed with the festival and their interest and excitement was clear during the Q&A session. It was also great for students to learn a bit more about the history of the city and visiting the RBB studios was really exciting for all the students.”
