Here are some frequently asked questions you may also have...

Can I approach a company about taking on an apprentice?

Absolutely! If you’re really keen to find something, we would also recommend that you spend time looking for your own apprenticeship. It’s now easier than ever to find out about companies and what they do online. You can search company contact details and send them a CV and covering letter explaining who you are and what you’re interested in doing.

What advice would you give for being proactive in my approach?

It’s worth contacting as many companies as you can find as not all of them will always be in a position to take on someone new. You may also need to be persistent, once you’ve sent an email or letter with your CV you will need to follow up with a phone call to check that they’ve received it. This all takes a bit of organisation and effort but it’s well worth it as companies are often impressed with people who show that they’re proactive and interested in what they do.

If I'm successful approaching a company myself, can I ask the College to explain the process and get things started?

If any companies respond, please put them in touch with us using these contact details:

We can talk to them on your behalf about how the apprenticeship programme could work for them.

I wasn't ready to start in September, will I need to wait a year?

Many of our apprenticeship standards have a mid-year start date, some are roll-on-roll-off so you can start at a time most suited to you and your employer. It's definitely worth contacting us to discuss this in more detail. We're usually able to be very accommodating, or we can suggest some learning that will add value to your role until the next suitable enrolment date.

I'm already employed, can I enrol on an apprenticeship program?

If you've already secured employment in your industry of choice and would like to develop your skills, or you've completed an apprenticeship already and are keen to progress you can of course explore the options available with your employer.
We've prepared this document for you to share with them during that discussion:

Do I need to be aged 16-24 to be an apprentice?

There is no upper age limit for an apprentice! It's becoming much more common for employers to enrol existing members of staff of all ages onto apprenticeships as a way to develop their careers.
