Our Vice Principal, Jenny Craig, has released this statement in relation to the College's GCSE results and an update on the release of Level 1 and 2 BTEC results:
"Here at Abingdon and Witney College, every year we support hundreds of young people and adults to gain GCSEs in English and maths as well as a huge range of vocational and technical qualifications.
Notwithstanding the much publicised uncertainty around results this year, we are delighted to confirm an overall pass rate of 98% for our GCSE students with around 70% achieving high grades. These results reflect the resilience, hard work and dedication of our students and their teachers over the past year and we congratulate all of them.
Many level 2 vocational and technical results were also issued today, and we have seen really strong performances across all areas. Pearson took the decision late yesterday (19 August) to review all BTEC grades to ensure that no student is disadvantaged. We welcome this outcome as it will ensure that all students achieve the results they deserve but recognise that this will create additional uncertainty for our progressing students.
We have therefore decided that, although we are not yet able to issue individual results, where draft BTEC and final GCSE grades indicate that progressing students have met their offer conditions, we will confirm their offer and progress their enrolment. We very much hope that this will enable students to focus on their future and next steps with us.
Where young people have not achieved the results they were hoping for, we would urge them to contact us through our virtual ‘drop in day’ website page where an army of staff are ready and waiting to provide information, advice and any guidance on all available options."
