Two students at Abingdon and Witney College are celebrating after their success at the World Skills event, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham from 13th-15th November. Ashley Brown and Sharon Dumper excelled in the intermediate and advanced nail enhancements categories at the event which celebrates the UK’s most talented apprentices and learners.
Teresa Kelly, Principal at Abingdon and Witney College, also attended the event to support the students and tutor Keeley Dennyschene said “Teresa’s interest and support was a real motivator for everyone involved. Just to get there is a massive achievement, let alone winning.”
Sharon, who took home gold at the competition, said “I’m overwhelmed. I still can’t believe it.” Sharon, who was at the event last year competing at an intermediate level, said that her model, Level 3 student Michelle Trafford, really calmed her nerves and helped her to remember the strict time schedule. She also stated “I would recommend competing to everyone. It really pushes you that little bit further. Our tutor, Keeley, goes above and beyond her role. She really believes in you, and that’s a massive confidence boost.”
Ashley Brown also excelled in the competition and was place number 9 in the UK for her skills in the intermediate nail enhancements category. She said, “It was stressful but it was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.”
