Thinking about a higher education course in early childhood studies? Come along to our FREE taster sessions in Abingdon this May and discover new ways to explore early years education.
Led by experienced Higher Education lecturers, Anna Colgan and Jane Alexander, the sessions are suitable for anyone currently working or volunteering in an early years setting and/or primary school (e.g. early years practitioner, teaching assistant, learning assistant support, inclusion assistants) but also childminders and nannies.
They will provide adult learners with an opportunity to experience a typical higher education session in a relaxed and friendly environment and to meet the tutors delivering our early childhood higher education courses.
Session 1, 23rd May 2019 – Personal, Social and Emotional Development: More Than Just Relationships.
This workshop focuses on an under-researched area of PSED: children’s mental health and wellbeing. The workshop will examine the risk factors that can impact children’s mental health and explain how high-quality early years environments can mitigate against these.
Session 2, 30th May 2019 – Anti-Bias Education: Embrace Difference, Challenge Discrimination
This workshop focuses on transforming our own skills around eliminating bias and prejudice and becoming true leaders for equality to the children in our lives. The session aims to give practitioners the tools we need to uncover and decode prejudice and bias, and equip them with appropriate ways to engage our children in recognising and challenging prejudice and bias.
