We caught up with Level 2 Countryside and Conservation student Amy, to find out why she chose Abingdon & Witney College and what she is enjoying on her course.
What do you enjoy about the course?
The course is very practical and includes a lot of hands-on outdoor practical learning, giving me a range of skills from hedge cutting, strimming and fencing to tractor driving and machinery maintenance. I also enjoy learning about the conservation of wildlife and plants and how to control the populations of different species as well as reintroducing native species back into their natural habitats in the wild.
What’s your favourite part of the course?
My favourite parts of the course are the predator and pest control module and the wildlife and conservation module. I enjoy learning about different species of predators, pests and wildlife, their habitats and how to control their populations.
Why did you choose Abingdon and Witney College?
When I first started in September 2018 I chose Abingdon and Witney College because it was the closest college to me where I was able to study land-based courses. I returned for a second and now my third year at Common Leys Farm campus because I enjoy being on-site so much. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful and the campus is a friendly and peaceful environment to learn in.
