College-bred horse graduates at Chepstow

16th May 2016

Nazik, a horse bred by students from Abingdon & Witney College, has won a race at a recent meeting at Chepstow.

With Nazik becoming the most recent success from the college’s thoroughbred management and equine science course, our unique equine training programmes also received recognition last year in the form of a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary Prize.

Our range of thoroughbred management and equine science courses provides students between the ages of 16 and 22 with experience of everything from mating plans to sales preparation.

Nazik comes from a successful family, with his half-brother Annunciation having previously won 4 times and gaining black horse type when he finished 3rd in the 2012 Listed Redcar Two-Year-Old Trophy.

Pam Willsher, head of faculty for land-based industries, said “We like to provide a very realistic and hands-on experience for students in seeing the cycle through from nominations to foaling to selling and finally seeing the horses on the track. We’ve been producing students for the thoroughbred industry for about 30 years and we now have graduates all over the world.”
