Discover what you're most passionate about before taking on a full degree! The Life Sciences Foundation Diploma forms the first year of a four year science qualification with Oxford Brookes University, giving you time to find out what you enjoy most.
Are you someone who is naturally curious about the world around them, can problem-solve, and has patience and persistence?
On our Science courses, you will learn a range of experimental techniques as you research, test and analyse within different fields, including biology, chemistry and life sciences. There will be discussions and debates around topical scientific issues, and also exciting sessions looking into the history of science.
Outside of the labs, nothing prepares students interested in science better than seeing industry in action. Previous trips have included Diamond Light Source in Harwell, Centre of the Cell in London, the Science Museum, and the Oxford University Botanical Gardens. Students are also encouraged to attend lectures of interest at University of Oxford & Oxford Brookes Universities, to expand their knowledge further.

Before college, I had tried A levels but they weren't for me. I had heard of Abingdon & Witney College before and luckily for me it was also the closest.
I've always enjoyed science. The structure of the course here is more suitable for how I learn, as there is more independence and I'm working towards science as a career choice.
The Lab Technician placement at Cokethorpe School was enjoyable and a valuable experience; they challenged us to learn and it wasn't just about working for a week.
After college, I'll be joining the RAF as a scientist.

Having not been in education for six years, it was daunting coming back into learning again but the teachers are all supportive and welcoming. Their teaching style is more informal than what I'm used to but they are passionate and industry experts so you learn loads!
It’s a fascinating course. I've always wanted to work with animals and when I saw the hydrotherapy pool demo at an open day I was sold; it is amazing and I want to do that as a career.

Having been interested in animals all my life I came to the College to study on the Level 3 Animal Care course and moving on to the foundation degree seemed a natural step.
Part of the course means we get to go on great trips that are relevant to our course, such as zoos and animal rescue centres. We also have access to the Oxford Brookes University societies and other benefits that come with studying at this level here.
There are an interesting range of modules - it's not just working practically with animals, there's learning and conducting research in the labs too.
