Our specialist Canine Hydrotherapy Centre at Common Leys Farm is unrivalled in professional and industry standards.

In the hydrotherapy pool, the buoyancy of the water reduces the weight of the dog, allowing dogs that are in pain to use their limbs more freely, increasing muscle tone and performance. The water is heated to a therapeutic level, to encourage muscle relaxation to improve a dog’s movement while reducing pain.

A separate canine hydrotherapy treadmill teaches even more advanced rehabilitation techniques, including gait and posture correction, post-operative rehabilitation, weight loss and psychological well-being.

The facilities are primarily used by our undergraduate students, particularly on the Animal Therapy and Rehabilitation degree-level courses, to develop their dog handling and rehabilitation skills. In addition, students learn how to maintain and manage the hydrotherapy pool which increases their employability skills.
