This programme has been specifically designed to develop your knowledge, understanding and practical skills in order to work as a make-up artist. You skills will be devloped to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units: media, fashion and photographic, camouflage make-up, airbrushing techniques, face and body art. In addition, there will be opportunities to study creative hairdressing skills and students will be expected to become involved in competition work.

This exciting course one year course at the Abingdon campus is a practically based course and you will receive ongoing assessment on your practical skills. There will be theory which underpins the practical knowledge. In addition to your study programme, you will be required to undertake work experience within the Make-Up industry and keep a portfolio of photographic evidence.

We offer many different industry related enrichment sessions so you can gain lots of additional knowledge and skills whilst studying with us, these are vital to stay up to date in the make-up industry.

These are the units you will study over the duration of the course:

Apply make-up
Apply airbrush make-up
Camouflage make-up
Media make-up
Design and apply face and body art
Fashion and photographic make-up
Plaiting and twisting hair
Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques
Students can progress into employment or decide to further their studies by progressing on to Higher Education.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above usually including Maths or English and a successful interview

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

On completion of this course you will receive the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up
You will carry out a range of practical assessments. You will collate theoretical evidence in the form of photographic portfolio evidence, assignments, projects, tests, demonstrations and presentations. This will all form part of a main project that you will work towards at the end of the year e.g. a fashion show.
You will learn a wide variety of skills throughout the course. As well as practical skills you will obtain a range of transferable skills including written and oral communication, team working and self-directed learning.
