Equipped to industry-standard, our Music Technology Suite at Witney is the ideal place to take your skills to the next level. The teaching and technician team are highly-skilled professionals who encourage our students to develop both their technical and creative knowledge. If you want to work in the music industry as an artist, producer, sound engineer or manager, this is the place to hone your talent. This qualification has been designed for students who have an interest in music performance and/or music production who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience.

This course gives you experience of all aspects of Music Technology and production through a programme of classes, workshops and seminars using industry standard music and sound equipment. During this course you will develop skills in the areas of studio skills, making and mastering, sound creation and listening. Study computer technology in music production, including midi and audio recording, as well as develop skills in sound reproduction in both the recording and live arenas. Learn about composing and editing music for multimedia productions, film, computer games and study the music industry.

As part of your experience at College you will access our award-wining Futures programme, which will support your progression to employment and higher study. Futures includes a core curriculum of financial, personal and social development, at least 35 hours of work experience per year and broad range of enrichment actvities and masterclasses.

This course, with its emphasis on practical work, requires a large amount of teamwork and is assessed through coursework. Abingdon & Witney College have well established links with creative and cultural industries within Oxfordshire and beyond.

Unit 2: Critical listening and music composition
Unit 3: Music industry and professional practice
Unit 4: Critical and contextual awareness for music performance and production
Unit 5: Music production in context
Unit 6: Music performance in context
Unit 7: Preparation for specialist study in music performance and production
Unit 8: Collaborative music performance project

Level 3 Diploma (2 Years)
Unit 9: Developing music performance and production skills
Unit 10: Exploration of specialist study in music performance and production
Unit 11: Preparing for progression in music performance and production
Unit 12: Project proposal for extended project in music performance and production
Unit 13: Extended project in music performance and production
The two-year Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-levels and therefore will qualify students for entry to University and Music college. With a Merit and a strong portfolio of work you could also progress onto the Level 4 Creative Practitioners (Audio & Visual) course at Abingdon & Witney College.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above usually including maths and English. Successful interview.
OR
Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above usually including GCSE maths and English. Successful interview.

There is a course consumables fee of £100.00 payable at enrolment which covers studio consumables, a Music Technology kit and general resources. Youmay be eligible for a bursary to help towards the cost of this. There is also a fee of £50.00 for induction / day trips payable via WisePay at the start of term. The total course fee is £150.00.

As well as the mandatory materials fee given above, there is also an optional residential trip costing approx. £350 (cost given for guidance only.) Previous destinations have included Berlin, Munich, Wroclaw and Amsterdam.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

All assessment is coursework based and there are no examinations on the vocational qualification.
Any re-takes of maths or English qualifications are assessed via examinations.
