We are well-known for our professional productions at college and on tour, where students work collaboratively on stage and behind the scenes to stage ambitious musicals and showcases.

The Level 3 Diploma (1 year) and Extended Diploma (2 years) in Performing & Production Arts qualifications are designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to access and progress to degree level study or employment in the performing arts. They provide an opportunity for those who have an interest in the performing arts to explore, develop and test their creativity within a qualification structure which is stimulating, demanding and provides a supportive transition from general to more specialised study.

The team are all practitioners and work in the Performing Arts industry, as musicians, set designers, directors, dancers and actors. They draw on their wealth of experience and understanding of the industry to support individuals in their chosen career, focusing ambition. This fast-paced course is based in the purpose-built theatre and brand new Dance Studios at the Abingdon campus with access to industry relevant equipment and resources.

Within this course you will:
Develop performing arts skills in the areas of drama, dance, music and stagecraft
Study Performing Arts and arts administration
Take part in and organise various termly performances including showcases and a Final Major Performance which in the past has included Grease The Musical, The Life and Legally Blonde.
Undertake work experience and have the chance to participate in industry and overseas trips.

Abingdon & Witney College have well-established links with creative and cultural industries within Oxfordshire and beyond. We use these links to ensure you get a real-world experience and exposure as an emerging Creative.

Level 3 Diploma (8 Units) (Year 1)
Unit 1. Principles of performance
Unit 2. Engaging with an audience
Unit 3. Introduction to professional practice
Unit 4. Critical and contextual awareness
Unit 5. Production skills and context
Unit 6. Performance skills and context
Unit 7. Preparation for specialist study
Unit 8. Collaborative performance project

Level 3 Extended Diploma (13 Units) (Year 2)
Unit 9. Developing performance and production skills
Unit 10. Preparing for progression
Unit 11. Exploration of specialist study and context
Unit 12 / 13. Final Major Performance
The course will develop many skills that you will be able to use in the world of work and can be a route towards a career in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Dance or Technical Theatre. This includes backstage, technical and administrative jobs, in addition to performance. The course also qualifies you for entry to university or drama school, and carries UCAS points. Year 2 students are given intensive support to help prepare for auditions.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above usually including Maths and English. Successful interview.
OR
Level 2 Diploma at Merit or above usually including GCSE maths and English.
Successful interview.

Bring to interview:
A short audition piece - either singing, dancing, or acting. All pieces should be memorised and a maximum of 2 minutes. If you are choosing to sing, please bring a backing track along with you, e.g. MP3, phone. Most recent school report.
There is a course fee of £80.00 payable at enrolment which covers a kit and masterclasses. In addition, there will be various day trips offered throughout the year where payment will be taken seperately via WisePay.

In addition to the main course fees there is also an optional residential trip costing approx. £350 (cost given as guidance only.)

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

Units 1–7 of the Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts will be assessed and internally verified through students’ portfolios of evidence and are subject to UAL Awarding Body’s external quality assurance.
Unit 8, the final unit of the Level 3 Diploma in Performing & Production Arts and Units 12 and 13, the final units of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing & Production Arts will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated against the assessment and grading criteria for those units.
