This specialist course is ideal if you have a passion for working backstage and/or on stage! It will give you the required skills and knowledge to pursue further studies and later a career in technical theatre or performing arts.

This course is based in the purpose-built theatre and large dance studios at the Abingdon Campus. The course is very practical so that you can experience all aspects of theatre production and/or performance through researching, planning, developing and staging exciting musicals, showcases and events.

If you follow the Backstage Production Pathway you will:

-learn a range of aspects of technical theatre including: stage management, set design and construction, wardrobe, sound and lighting. This will include working with staff and performance students to stage several productions throughout the year. You will also learn how to use industry-standard lighting, lighting design software and sound in the purpose built theatre.

If you follow the Performing Arts Pathway you will:

-learn to develop performing arts skills in the areas of acting, dance and singing. This will include working with staff and production students to stage several productions throughout the year.

The course has a strong emphasis on practical work which relies heavily on teamwork, with students being assessed through coursework. You have the opportunity to develop, create and produce a portfolio/audtion pieces which can be help you to move on to further studies. All students undertake work experience and have the chance to participate in masterclasses and trips.

Successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma in Peformance & Production will prepare you for entry onto a Level 3 Diploma course on a entry level job or Apprenticehship. You can re-take maths or English GCSEs or Functional Skills alongside this qualification.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 and above usually including Maths and English and a successful interview.

There is a course fee of £80 payable at enrolment which covers a kit and masterclasses. You may be eligible for a bursary to help towards this cost.
Day trips will be offered as part of the programme and these can be paid for separately on Wisepay.

There is also an optional residential trip costing approx. £350 (this cost is given for guidance only).

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.
