A pottery course in which you will learn a wide range of ceramic processes in a well-equipped studio taught by one of our highly skilled Ceramic Artists. You will be producing a body of work showing development of skills and ideas in a relaxed and friendly environment.
Beginners will be shown how to produce work using hand-building techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab-building, potters’ moulds and the potters’ wheel. In addition, you will be supported and encouraged to develop a confident understanding and use of clay qualities, making techniques, decorative skills, glazing, visual language and quality of finish.
Returning learners’ are encouraged to build on their skill-base to design and achieve more complex and refined work inspired by their interests and personal goals. The studio allows you, the learner, to express your ideas whilst other learners will have enough room to complete their own pieces of artwork and interact with you in a collaborative way to help you develop your artistic portfolio.
All learners are allocated with a 4kg (total fired weight) allowance of clay per course, this is roughly equivalent to 8 very large mugs. Please note this personal allowance is not transferrable between learners or courses.
Once this weight is exceeded, learners will have the opportunity to have more work fired at a cost of of £5 per 500g , purchased via wisepay.
Please note there will be no sessions on 05/04/2021, 12/04/2021 and 03/05/2021
Also note the pottery room is shared room with the plumbing and engineering courses. Noise levels can be louder than expected on occasions particularly when the plumbing students are using tools.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.
