The Oxford United Advanced Football Programme is a brand-new full-time study programme which enables students, aged 16-18 on 1st September 2023, to advance their academic knowledge in the sporting industry alongside football development in partnership with Oxford United. The courses available include a BTEC qualification in Sport Level 3 or Sports Coaching at Level 2, depending on qualifications upon entry.

As part of the selection process applicants will be invited to an official invitation only trial event at the club's Bangkok Glass Training Centre on 28th June 2023 between 6pm - 8pm. Due to the competitive nature of the programme this will be the only trial date available.

This new programme is scheduled to enter male leagues for this academic year however future plans include offering the programme for female applicants.

This programme is for aspiring and talented football players who are looking to continue their development in partnership with their education. It has been intentionally designed to give learners a thorough overview of the key knowledge and skills for a career in sport. This includes working with members of the group and developing a wider understanding of the sports industry and how to conduct themselves as a professional.

Applicants will be invited to a trial event at Oxford United’s training ground specifically for this new programme during which successful candidates will be selected.

Professional training will take place around students’ timetable at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre in the Oxford Sports Park. Students will participate in a competitive league competition where they will have the opportunity to compete against other teams and provisions across the region whilst representing Abingdon & Witney College and Oxford United.

Both levels include theory and practical lessons that educate students about the sporting industry. The Level 3 programme is made up of 14 units across two years of study and covers a range of topics from the human anatomy to fitness training and testing, to sport psychology, business and how sport is changing around us in sports development. Assessment methods are varied for each unit and include written reports, presentations, practical observations and exams. The Level 2 programme is made up of 4 units in one year of study. These units focus on sports leadership, physical and sports education and professional development in the sport industry. The assessment methods are entirely coursework based and include written reports, presentations and practical observations.
