This is a one year full time course delivered at our Abingdon campus.

To gain a QAA recognised Access to Higher Education Diploma you need to gain 60 credits of which 45 credits are graded. There are 18 credits available in Human Biology, 15 credits available in Social Science, 6 credits available in Chemistry and 6 credits available from the Independent Academic Studies Research Project. The remaining 15 credits are based around academic study skills. The course will be delivered over two days per week but will require additional outside study time of at least 10 hours/week.

You will study Human Biology, Psychological and Sociological Aspects of Health Care and also Chemistry. You will also acquire the necessary academic and IT skills needed for effective study through workshops. You will be given tutorial guidance to support your university application.
Access to HE Diploma (Nursing & Healthcare Professions) is a course specifically designed to enable students with few qualifications to reach the necessary entry requirements for a degree or diploma in Higher Education.
You must be 19 or over have few formal qualifications but want to go on to study in Higher Education.

You will need to have a GCSE grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Relevant work experience is normally expected for your university application to be considered and therefore we expect you to have arranged this before starting the course.
Students aged 19-23 who do not already hold a Level 3 qualification may be entitled to remission of fees. Learners aged 24+ or those who already hold a Level 3 qualification must apply for an Adult Learner Loan. Please talk to our admissions team for further details. Under the present rules this loan is not repayable if students progress to a degree programme within a year of completing the Access to HE programme but please check with our admissions team when you apply.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course cost, call 01235 216 298 for more information.

The 19+ full fee button displays the full fee that may apply, the rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 555 585 to discuss your options.
