This course helps to enhance work-place skills, especially for those in customer-focused services, including the caring professions and mental health workers, providing essential communication skills to use in a professional helping capacity. The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is accredited by the NCFE and is made up of four learning units: theory; skills practice; personal development; and ethics and diversity. Students are introduced to the three main theoretical approaches to counselling: person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT, as well as the basics of Transactional Analysis. Students learn to identify and practice core counselling skills. Personal development and peer group work are essential course components. Learners enhance their understanding of ethical and diversity issues and identify appropriate codes of practice to adapt to their unique work place setting. Level 2 is also the foundation level entry course into the counselling profession.
