This course helps to enhance work-place skills, especially for those in customer-focused services, including the caring professions and mental health workers, providing essential communication skills to use in a professional helping capacity. The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills is accredited by the NCFE and is made up of four learning units: theory; skills practice; personal development; and ethics and diversity. Students are introduced to the three main theoretical approaches to counselling: person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT, as well as the basics of Transactional Analysis. Students learn to identify and practice core counselling skills. Personal development and peer group work are essential course components. Learners enhance their understanding of ethical and diversity issues and identify appropriate codes of practice to adapt to their unique work place setting. Level 2 is also the foundation level entry course into the counselling profession.

You will learn active listening and essential core counselling skills. Development of self-insight and resilience to increase your capacity to help others. Learning is experiential and practical. You will have time to practice newly learnt skills with peers in an encouraging and inspirational learning environment.

Using counselling skills, introduction to skills theory, diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills, counselling skills and personal development.
Students completing this course may apply for an interview to progress to Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB)
19+ years of age. Workplace experience. All applicants will be invited for a pre-course interview session.

Learners who have passed Counselling Skills Level 1 will not require interview.
Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.
