This course covers fundamentals of the uniformed protective services sector and is designed to support learners who want to study uniformed protective services. It will allow learners to access higher education in public services and related areas, and ultimately for learners to progress to employment in the uniformed protective services. This reflects the shift towards increased graduate employment in the sector, for example in the police service.

Year 1:

• Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services
• Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing
• Teamwork, Leadership and Communication in the Uniformed Protective Services
• Skills for Outdoor Activities
• Introduction to Criminology

Year 2:
• Global Affairs and the Media
• Government and the Protective Services
• Planning & Responding to Emergency Incidents
• Custodial Care
• Expedition Skills
• Police Powers and the Law
• Criminal Investigation Procedures and Practices
The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher-education providers as contributing to admission requirements for many relevant courses. When combined with other qualifications in a two-year study programme, such as our second year Extended Diploma in Protective Services, learners can progress to higher education in a range of disciplines or employment or apprenticeship within uniformed public services.
Joining this study programme is subject to a satisfactory interview and the following achievements:
At least 5 x GCSE grade 4/C or above including either English or maths, or at least achievement of a merit at a full Level 2 qualification and GCSE grade 4/C or above in English or maths
A fee of approximately £80 for uniform will need to be paid directly to the supplier. Further information on this will be given during induction.

Study trips and visits linked to modules will be arranged as part of your programme of study. Any applicable fees regarding these trips will be advised at the start of the course.
