On successful completion of the BTEC Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Engineering, you can progress onto the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering, gain an apprenticeship or seek operative level employment. Progression to the Level 3 Extended Diploma is subject to successfully completing the Foundation Diploma and passing an interview.

Maths GCSE at grade B/5 or above and 4 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English.

In addition to the main course fees there is an additional cost of £54 for text books and £50 for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). (Costs are given for guidance only.)

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

Level 3 National Foundation Diploma in Engineering

You will be undertaking a series of assessment methods which are specifically designed to fit the purpose of vocational education and training. There are three main forms of assessment that you need to be aware of: external, internal and synoptic.
• External Assessment - All learners take the same assessment at the same time, normally with a written outcome.
• Internal Assessment – The majority of the units are assessed this way normally as a written assignment and in accordance with the awarding bodies guidelines.
• Synoptic assessment - Requires learners to demonstrate that they can identify and use effectively, in an integrated way, an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories and knowledge gained from a particular unit.

The Level 3 Engineering course provides you with a rich vocational experience in which you will develop the knowledge and skills required for further study and employment, including:
• Reading technical texts
• Effective writing
• Analytical skills
• Creative development
• Preparation for assessment methods used in Higher Education and Degree Apprenticeships

As well as the technical and practical skills you will gain a range of transferable skills including;
• Critical thinking, solve non-routine problems by applying expert and creative solutions, use digital systems and technology effectively
• Communicate with others, work collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation skills
• interpersonal skills, self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and taking ownership of your learning and development.
