Property Maintenance Operatives optimise property condition and quality and ensure that buildings are kept in a safe working condition whilst providing a high level of satisfaction to customers.

Property Maintenance Operatives will understand the mechanism of buildings including electrical, plumbing, plant, safety systems and equipment. They will provide first and immediate response to fault finding, whilst maximising quality and ensuring cost effectiveness. They will ensure prevention of major damage that could result in extensive costs and minimise reactive intervention.

Duration:
• 12 months practical training period, plus 3 months for End Point Assessment

Delivery model
• Work-based training with your employer
• Day release during term time (approximately 1 day a week for 1 year)
• Approximately 5 on-site assessment visits per year
• Level 1 Functional Skills in Maths and English (7 days at college for each, if required)
• Off the job training will count for at least 20% of an apprentice’s time at work

Qualifications included:
• Level 1 Functional Skills in English and Maths

End Point Assessment:
• Multiple choice knowledge test
• Practical assessment
• Professional discussion based on a portfolio of evidence and short research assignment

What knowledge and skills will apprentices learn?

• Health and safety in the workplace
• Carry out repairs to the fabric of a building, such as repairs to walls, doors, doorframes, skirting boards or plaster damage
• Maintain plumbing and drainage systems, such as repairs to WC systems, leaking taps, water testing and unblocking drains
• Maintain high levels of water hygiene within a building
• Maintain and repair electrical installations such as sockets, plugs, lighting and fuses
• Maintain plant, safety systems and equipment
• Implement energy, environment and sustainable practices
• Maintain drainage and guttering
• Using hand tools
• How to control resources and stock
• Understand planned preventative maintenance
• Carry out repairs and reactive maintenance
• Customer service and reporting information accurately

Successful completion of this apprenticeship will help you to secure full time employment in the sector and could lead to higher level study in the future.
Applicants are likely to have achieved a Level 2 apprenticeship and have 4 GCSEs A*- D/ 9 - 4 or equivalent and will need to demonstrate the ability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.
Free to apprentices. This apprenticeship has an £9,000 funding band. Small companies will need to make a small contribution of £450; large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy if they have funds available.
