Do you want to make a real difference to peoples' lives? Can you work as well in a team as you can on your own? Love spending time outdoors? Then careers in the Public Services industry may be just for you!

The course offers a mix of skills and knowledge that will prepare you for working within the Uniformed Public Services and/or active leisure industry. These include adventurous activities, working in teams, dealing with t he public, keeping the right level of fitness, jobs within Public Services and expeditions.

This course will help you to understand what a job in the Public Services would be like and will help to prepare you for that job. It will also help you to continue in education as success on the course will allow consideration for further study at a higher level.

The course consists of 6 units in all and there will be some academic content, but the emphasis will be on practical activities to provide context to the written assignments.

The course units you will study include;
• Public Service Skills
• Employment in the Uniformed Public Services
• Career Planning for the Public Services
• Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services
• Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
• Land Navigation by Map and Compass
• Crime and its Effects on Society
The majority of our students progress to further study at Level 3 (the Extended Diploma in either Sport or Protective Services); alternatively, you may consider seeking employment in the Public Services or active leisure industry.
Joining this study programme is subject to a satisfactory interview and the following achievements: At least 4 x GCSE grade 3/D or above, usually including English or maths
A fee of approximately £80 for uniform will need to be paid directly to the supplier. Further information on this will be given during induction.

Study trips and visits linked to modules will be arranged as part of your programme of study. Any applicable fees regarding these trips will be advised at the start of the course.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.
