The IMI Level 1 - Light Vehicle Transport Maintenance course can help you take your first steps towards a career in the Motor Vehicle industry. Through a combination of practical experience and written assignments, the course provides learners with the knowledge, skills and understanding needed for a successful career in this fast-paced technological industry sector.

Using our state-of-the-art facilities, you will learn a range of technical, practical and academic skills in order to prepare you for a career in the industry, an apprenticeship or further study. The course focuses on the core automotive skills and the technical skills valued by employers in the workplace, including; Engine Operations, Transmissions, Chassis Systems and Vehicle Electrics, and basic fault diagnosis by studying these core elements you will be well on your way to becoming a vocationally trained and adaptable individual in this rapidly changing industry.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for the Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair course, an Apprenticeship or seek Motor Vehicle technician level employment.
GCSEs at grade D/3 - E/2 in maths and English and a successful interview or successful completion of the E3 Motor vehcile study programme with functional skills at E3 or above in both Maths and English
In addition to the main course fees there is an additional cost of £340 for tool kits/work wear clothing and £54 for text books. There is also a trip fee of £60. (Costs are approximate and given for guidance only.)

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

Level 1 Diploma in Light Vehicle Transport Maintenance
A variety of assessment methods are used including observations of practical workshop tasks, practical task write ups which detail how the task was performed, written theory knowledge papers and online exams. These will challenge your understanding of the content and concepts of automotive engineering. If required you will also study GSCE or Functional Skills English and/or maths to support your entry to employment, apprenticeship or further studies.
As well as the technical and practical skills you will gain a range of transferable skills including written and oral communication, team working, self-management, time management, leadership, self-confidence and self-directed learning.
