The Level 1 Work-Based Diploma is a one year full time course. It is the first step towards developing the knowledge and skills required to work in the equine industry. All aspects of basic horse care are covered throughout the year with a strong emphasis on practical sessions on the college yard supported by underpinning theory which are delivered by a variety of specialist equine staff working at the College.
During this course you will learn how to maintain health and safety in the workplace, groom and wash horses, feeding and watering horses, stable duties and horse handling. You will also learn how to fit and maintain horse tack and clothing, clean tack and horse clothing, learn how to put on and take off tack and rugs and start to understand how to ride horses on the flat. Students will be studying towards a study programme that will include their main vocational qualification, skills in English and Maths, tutorials, enrichment and work experience. These are essential skills for employment. Students will usually attend College 3-4 days a week from 9.30-4.30pm.
