This exciting course at the Abingdon and Witney campus will enable you to develop your creative practical skills and teach you the theory alongside the practical units. You will learn how to complete the basics for Hairdressing and Beauty. This will start with health and safety and communication skills progressing onto blow-drying and manicure. In the Hair & Beauty Studio you will have access to excellent industry-standard resources and products such as Wella and Kaeso. We offer so many different enrichment courses, for example spray tans, competitions and hair & beauty skills.

These are the typical units you will study over the duration of the course:

Health and Safety: During this unit you will develop advanced skills in how to stay safe whilst in a salon.

The art of dressing hair: During this unit you will be learning a lot of hair science (it’s not all practical). We make it fun and interesting to help you remember the key terms and terminology.

Plaiting and Twisting: During this unit you will learn how to plait and twist the hair.

Nail Art: During this unit you will learn how to develop basic nail art techniques using nail art paints, gem stones and glitter.

Introduction to hair and beauty: Through this unit you will develop an understanding of how the hair and beauty industry works.

Manicure: During this unit you will learn how to prepare for and provide basic manicure treatments e.g. filing and nail painting.

Working with others: Through this unit you will develop an awareness of how to work effectively as part of a team in a salon.

Creating a hair and beauty image: Through this unit you will develop the creative skill of using both hairdressing and beauty techniques to create an image.

Temporary colour: Through this unit you will develop the knowledge and artistic skill of using temporary hair colour to create an effect.

Reception: The aim of this unit is to develop an awareness of how to create a positive image of yourself and the salon whilst working on the reception desk.

Shampoo and condition: Through this unit you will develop the skill of shampooing and conditioning hair using a variety of products and massage techniques.
