It is planned that this course will be running online, using Teams, for the Autumn Term. This may change, depending on Government guidelines.

This is the first in the follow-on courses from your beginners course where you will start to improve your conversation and your understanding of short dialogues and short texts and make yourself understood in a range of increasingly unpredictable everyday situations.

By the end of this course you will be able to:¿

describe a routine and various occupations
talk about characters and their life
begin to narrate past events, past holidays.
deal with simple emergencies (e.g. going to the pharmacist or doctor).
make appointments
talk about how things used to be and express an opinion
Use past tenses with greater accuracy and confidence and report a theft, lost property, incidents and accidents. Describe what happened.
make a complaint.¿¿
plan for an outing, leisure activities.

The main topics are designed for those who wish to converse a little more in the language when visiting the country or in a working environment.¿¿

If you are to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from your language class, it will be useful to spend some time working between sessions. There will usually be a small amount of homework set each week (up to an hour’s work). When homework is not set, it is still a good idea to spend about that amount of time going over what has been done in class.¿

You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.

French Intermediate
There are no formal entry requirements however this is a course for those who have already studied the language at school for one or two years, of followed a course for 50 - 60 hours, or else have spent some time in the country on holiday or business trips. You will already be able to cope with a range of simple everyday situations using the present tense and be able to recognise the past tense when you hear or read it. We are committed to ensuring that you have a positive learning experience and will therefore be reviewing all our classes after the first session to ensure learners are enrolled on a course that is at the right level for them.¿

Courses can fill fast, so please enrol early to avoid disappointment. Decisions on whether a course is to run are made two weeks prior to the start date - an email will be sent to you should there be changes to your course or if it is cancelled. Please check your inbox leading up to your course, including the junk folders. For anyone without an email account, our Admissions team will phone you instead.

For the first week of the course you will need to bring a valid form of identification; this includes passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2020 prior to starting the course.
If you are new to this course, then a text book may be required (Average cost £20 - £25). You may also like to buy a dictionary. Your tutor will be able to advise you at the first session.

Courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded by the Government and the published fee takes account of this funding.

Before starting a course, the College is required to check you meet conditions relating to that funding, e.g. age, residency status within the UK/EEA, prior qualification level and employment status. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.

If you are unable to pay in full for this course at the time of enrolment, and the course tuition fee is £300 or more, an instalment plan is available. If this is your preference, please do not enrol online but rather call the Admissions Team on 01235 216400 to enrol.

Once enrolled, Admissions will take the first instalment payment from you and pass on your details to the Finance team who will email you to set-up your payment plan. Please return a fully completed instalment plan to Finance as failure to do so could result in being withdrawn from your course.

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. However, you will be asked to complete activities that demonstrate how you are progressing on your course.
We commit ourselves to accommodate different learning styles through a variety of activities in class. There is no exam to sit and no qualification to obtain apart from a Certificate of Attendance for a specific level of language. However, the complexity of the tasks offered will evolve according to the progression of your language skills and will demonstrate your acquisition of new competences.
