This course is for anyone with a passion for being creative with flowers, whether it becomes a relaxing hobby or the start of a floral career. The course will give you the foundational skills of floristry and further challenges to suit your own level.
This course aims to introduce you to the exciting and enjoyable world of floristry. It will equip you with more advanced skills and challenge you to produce a variety of floral designs to your own level of experience. During the course there will be ‘step-by-step’ demonstrations followed by hands on practical work. Advice and tips will be given throughout each session. You will learn to:
- make a selection of floral designs, traditional and modern;- recognise basic wiring techniques to extend floral lasting qualities;- identify and coordinate various flower and foliage materials;- demonstrate design techniques, mechanics;- evaluate the elements and principles of designs.
Please bring a pen and paper, flowers and foliage to make an asymmetrical arrangement, floral foam and a container if you have one, a pair of floristry scissors, an apron and a camera. Ideal flowers: a bunch of spray carnations, a bunch of filler flowers, for example, gyp or hypericum berries, and five to seven focal flowers, such as, roses or gerberas, and mixed foliage.

There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. In order to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
Should the Campus car park be full, please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks which are a few minutes’ walk away.
Please report to Reception (Windrush Building) on arrival.
