Learn the basics of floristry over 14 evenings and gain a City and Guilds recognised qualification with this very practical hands on course. Students will need to bring a range of fresh flowers and some sundries to each session. Along with the flower based units an element of work experience is a requirement of the qualification.

This course is designed for those people who would like to enter the Floristry profession or those who have a keen interest in Floristry. You will learn to do wired designs such as Buttonholes and Corsages for weddings, a variety of modern and traditional Hand Tied designs, some table arrangements, Wreaths as Funeral tributes. You will also make some planted designs using pot plants and a variety of containers.

You will also study the elements of colour, texture, line, form, shape and proportion, using these to help to improve your design skills. There will be practical sessions on display, both window display and the display of the individual flowers/ foliage. Underpinning this will be the knowledge of how to order your flowers/sundry items and how to condition and care for your Flowers/Foliage.

There will be written and practical assessments during the course and you will need to present a record of the work in the form of a portfolio at the end of the course. You will need to buy some basic floristry equipment for the course and will need to bring fresh flowers/sundries to each lesson. The flowers will cost £10 to £15 approx per lesson.

Carry out basic floristry tasks; Identify flowers, foliages and plants; Produce and maintain shop displays; Produce planted designs; Assemble basic floral designs; Develop performance in land-based industries
Students may wish to progress onto the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Floristry.
