This is a practical, hands on course to enable you (you must be aged 16 – 24) to gain basic construction skills, to learn what it is like to work in the construction sector and to develop the employability skills you need to secure a job or an apprenticeship in construction. You will have the opportunity to take the test for a CSCS card which is essential for working on construction sites. You will learn basic skills in plumbing and carpentry, and will gain an understanding of health and safety in a training workshop and on a construction site. You will be supported to prepare a CV, carry out job searches and have the opportunity to practice your interview skills. The last three weeks of your course will be full time work experience with an employer. Many of our employers use this course as an extended interview for apprenticeship places, so the most successful trainees could progress from this course straight into a paid apprenticeship with an employer.
