This is a one year full time course delivered at our Abingdon campus.

The course will be delivered over 2 days but will require additional outside study time of at least 10 hours/week. To gain a QAA recognised Access to Higher Education Diploma you need to gain 60 credits of which 45 credits are graded. There are 18 graded credits in biology and 18 graded credits in chemistry. Nine credits are available from the science-based independent research project. The remaining 15 ungraded credits are based around academic study skills.

You will study the following two biomedical science areas of biology and chemistry. You will also acquire the necessary academic and IT skills needed for effective study through workshops. You will be given tutorial guidance to support your university application.
You must be 19 or over have few formal qualifications but want to go on to study in Higher Education.

You will need to have a GCSE grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Relevant work experience is normally expected for your university application to be considered and therefore we expect you to have arranged this before starting the course.
Fees or Advance learner loan of £3,384.

Under current rules students who progress onto a degree level course within a year of completing the Access to HE programme do not have to repay the loan however please check this with our admissions team for current information. Students for whom this is their first level 3 course may be entitled to remission of fees but please contact our admissions team for more details.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course cost, call 01235 216 298 for more information.
