Are you an employer with a salary bill of more than £3m each year?

Then you will be paying an apprenticeship levy of 0.5% of your annual salary bill.

There are many ways we help businesses make the most of their Levy. We have a long track record of working with a wide variety of large and small employers to develop collaborative apprenticeship programmes that meet the needs of employers.

We understand that you know how to train your staff and what your business needs to grow, and we want to build on the expertise you already have in place. We're there to put a structure around that training and accredit qualifications, recognising achievement and facilitating the whole process.

We are graded Outstanding by Ofsted too, so you know that you are in safe hands with us.

The good news is that you can use the levy to pay for training and development apprenticeship programmes for new and existing staff members. This provides a great opportunity for you to upskill existing staff, establish effective succession planning programmes or develop talent to help progress your business growth strategy.

Apprentices will spend at least 20% of their time away from their day job and in training; in most cases this can be flexible, but apprentices will need to be paid for this time. There are some eligibility requirements that each apprentice will need to meet, but we can help you with these rules. Most importantly, you will need to be able to commit to supporting your staff member to gain the new skills needed for their apprenticeship.

Not any more! Apprentices can be any age and at any stage of their career. Apprenticeships are now available in more areas than ever before and range from level 2 (GCSE equivalent) to Degree Apprenticeships which include a full university degree course as part of the training. Subjects range from IT, Engineering and Motor Vehicle, to Leadership and Management, HR and Accounting, and everything in between!

There really isn't one! However, you do need to be certain that an apprenticeship training programme is the right development pathway for your existing staff or new recruit. It is important to remember that apprenticeships are training programmes and you will need to be able to invest time and resources into helping your apprentices to develop the new skills that they need, even if they are existing members of staff.

Clive Shepherd, Apprenticeship Manager at The University of Oxford explains how they use the apprenticeship levy.
